inner excavate-along guest contributor: vivienne mcmaster

Today, we are checking back in with Inner Excavation contributor Vivienne McMaster. I asked Viv to share some inspiration that would gently push you to dive deeper into the world of self-portraits, and I am delighted to share her gorgeous photos and wisdom.

As you continue to explore your inner and outer landscapes here in Chapter 5, I hope you will think about the "dangers of self-portraiture" that Viv shares below and turn the camera toward yourself.

Vivienne McMaster is a photographer, visual storyteller and workshop leader with a passionate, supportive, rule free approach to getting creative with taking photos.

She has a big love for helping people find the photographer within themselves. She believes, and knows from experience, that self-portraits can be incredibly healing (and also so much fun). She has a brand new website where she often shares stories that entwine images and words together.

Update: The Inner Excavate-along was a free read-along on my blog in the summer of 2012. All the posts are here on the blog, but I'm not directing a group through it with newsletters etc. at this time. I hope you enjoy following along! Find out more about my book, Inner Excavation: Explore Your Self Through Photography, Poetry and Mixed Mediahere.

Vivienne, I want you to know that both you and Liz are real heroes of mine. You truly lift me up and inspire me when I need it most.

Because of this, and your ability to help us be brave and see ourselves, I wrote a little something and posted it to my blog. I would never in a million years have been able to post a photo of myself, but I DID IT!

Thank you both for being there and encouraging me on this journey.

Best,
beth
