with your incredible pants
and cheeks
and wispy hair
look at you standing tall
although perhaps unsure
between, i am guessing, a buick and a chevy
something tells me this might have been a moment of good-bye
one last photo snapped before they backed out of the driveway
to head over the hills and mountains toward home
saying good-bye was really never your thing
still isn't
waiting to cry until later
when everyone else has left
yes, this is what you do
how i wish i had those pants
i would turn them into patches of a quilt
yes
to be made for someone destined to be your size one day
those searching eyes
one foot then the other

Is it too late to say I saw you at Squam? I've been regretting ever since that I didn't say hello - didn't tell you how much your words have meant (mean) to me. We shared a few short hours in Helene's class - you may not remember me - I'm the one who felt (feels) like I've been living my life for everyone else and am realizing it's time to live for me. Anyway, your words tonight have moved me (once again) and made me realize (once again) how much I wish I'd reached out to you. Something makes me think you need a "virtual" hug, so {{here it is}}.

Sigh....I wish you did still have those pants so that you could quilt with them and have that tangible part of the memory. The pictures and memories and emotions seem to be flowing for us lately. Why, I wonder? Is the time of the year? Is it something in the air? Perhaps it's just a more introspective time. "She" is darling....and you are....beautiful. xoxo
